A 22-year-old Mesquite man has been charged with murder after the death of his 7-week-old child, who was found injured, unconscious and not breathing earlier this month, police said Monday.
The preliminary investigation indicates the two teen boys were inside a bedroom when gunshots were heard by an adult resident, police said.
According to the department, at about 9:30 p.m. Thursday, officers were called to a shooting in the 2100 block of Pecan Creek Drive.
Officers were called to the Dallas Regional Medical Center for an "unclothed" man who had been brought to the hospital, but got into an ambulance and left.
"Your information could be vital to ensuring justice for all those affected," Mesquite PD said in a news release.
Police said the parents did not live together but did share custody in the weeks leading up to the child's death.
Nearby Poteet High School was delayed until 10 a.m. due to the police presence, but there is no ongoing threat.
