Sam Crenshaw is a veteran sports reporter and TV sports anchor on the CBS News Atlanta team. Sam is known in the Atlanta community for his knowledge of local athletes and teams as well as his passion for playing tennis.
Sam has been sideline reporter for the Georgia State University Panther Football Radio Network and the play-by-play voice for Georgia State basketball on ESPN3. He's previously served as weekend morning host on Entercom Radio's Sports Radio 92.9 The Game, sports anchor for CW69 News at 10, as a producer/correspondent for City of Atlanta TV (ATL 26), and as a broadcaster and content producer for GPB Sports.
A Birmingham, Alabama, native, Sam worked at WXIA-TV from 1998 to 2014, where he was a 2003 Emmy Award winner for sports coverage. Sam came to 11Alive from WFMY-TV, Gannett's CBS affiliate in Greensboro, North Carolina, where he served as sports anchor/reporter for seven years.
Prior to his work at WFMY-TV, Sam was the sports director at WRDW-TV in Augusta, Georgia, for five years. He also served as the anchor for "Black College Sports Today" on ESPN, a weekly program focusing on athletics at the nation's historically Black universities, and was a sideline reporter and play-by-play voice for college football on ESPN2.
Sam has also been the host of USTA Southern's Talking Tennis Southern Style podcast and hosted Matchpoint Atlanta, a weekly tennis program that aired regionally on Sportsouth and locally on 11Alive.
Sam has received the USTA's Media Excellence Award and serves on the board of USTA Georgia.
Sam is a graduate of the University of West Georgia. During his college years, Sam was an announcer at WSB-FM. He also is a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. Sam and his wife Phyllis live in Suwanee.
