A massive weather system that is crossing the country left extensive damage in the Midwest. In total, eight states saw violent winds, hail and tornadoes from Texas to Illinois, and the system is still on the move.

Southeast Texas faces severe flood risk
In Southeast Texas, the flood risk is dangerously high. Water levels in some areas are nearly as high as they were during Hurricane Harvey, which dropped more than 50 inches of rain in places, setting a new North American record. This morning, flooding has swamped neighborhoods and blocked off roads. Additionally, two to five more inches of rain could fall before the end of the week.
Tornadoes hit Midwest again
One person was killed in Westmoreland, Kansas, on Tuesday after a tornado tore through the small city. Another tornado in Oklahoma touched down, damaging several buildings. The severe weather risk continues Wednesday, stretching from Nebraska to Texas.
