The Dish: Inside the Commander’s Palace

Along with jazz, the French Quarter and Mardi Gras, amazing food has always been a hallmark of New Orleans. It’s found in both local cafes and in famed restaurants known the world over. At one of the most renowned — Commander’s Palace — there’s someone new in charge of the kitchen. Jamie Wax speaks with Chef Meg Bickford, the first woman executive chef in the restaurant’s long history, about caring on a tradition while making a mark of her own.

Widow of congressman-elect runs for his seat

Louisiana will hold a special election on March 20 after the unexpected opening of two congressional seats. The 5th congressional district seat was left vacant after Republican Congressman-elect Luke Letlow died of complications from COVID-19. His widow Julia is now running for that seat. The second contest is a race to fill a 2nd Congressional District seat that opened up after Democratic Representative Cedric Richmond resigned to join the Biden administration. News-Star politics reporter Greg Hilburn joins CBSN's "Red & Blue" anchor Elaine Quijano with more on the top contenders.

Cajun specialties from Chef Melissa Martin

New Orleans chef Melissa Martin is out with a new cookbook, “Mosquito Supper Club: Cajun Recipes from a Disappearing Bayou.” When guests arrive at her famed restaurant, they never know who they’re going to meet, or even what they’re going to eat, but they always leave with a soul-satisfying experience – something she plans to revive post-pandemic. In the meantime, she whipped up some of her amazing cajun specialties for CBS News’ Jamie Wax for the “CBS This Morning: Saturday” series, The Dish.
