Roxie Washington, the mother of George Floyd's young daughter, spoke publicly on Tuesday for the first time since Floyd's death. In a tearful statement at a news conference, she said that she "wanted everybody to know that this is what those officers took."
"At the end of the day, they get to go home and be with their families. Gianna does not have a father," she said.
"Our criminal justice system is used as a system of social control so often," he told Elaine Quijano, anchor of "Red & Blue" on CBSN.
As protests continue around the country, there are new details about the investigation in George Floyd's death and the officer now charged. Jamie Yuccas reports from St. Paul, Minnesota with the latest.
Despite a number of violent confrontations between police and protesters, many of this week's demonstrations against police brutality have been peaceful. Several officials, including Attorney General Bill Barr, have accused outside radical groups of hijacking protests to promote a separate agenda. As thousands of people were on the bridge of Minneapolis Interstate 35W protesting the death of George Floyd, a large tanker truck driving at a high speed appears to try hitting protesters. CBSN Minnesota reports.
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz said he is trying to get data on how many protesters came from out-of-state. "Our best estimate right now that I heard is about 20%, is what we think are Minnesotans, and about 80% are outside," he said.
