Yellowstone to start reopening after floods

Parts of Yellowstone National Park will start reopening to a restricted number of visitors this week after historic flooding knocked out roads and bridges, but the northern area will remain closed. People in Odessa, Texas can safely drink their tap water again after a water main break last Monday forced them to boil it first. And, “Jurassic World: Dominion” roared into the top spot at the box office for the second straight weekend, raking in an estimated 58 million dollars.

Jan. 6th committee focuses on Trump’s actions

The summer’s last January 6th committee hearing focused on providing a detailed account of then-President Trump's actions on that day. One former official has told the committee Trump was “irate” at not being taken to the Capitol as the mob laid siege. The U.S. House has passed a bill that would guarantee access to birth control, but it’s unlikely to get past the Senate. And the Mega Millions Lotto jackpot has reached $660 million, with the drawing set for Friday night.

Senate set for vote on abortion rights bill

The Senate is slated to hold a procedural vote to begin debate on guaranteeing abortion rights, in the wake of the leaked Supreme Court majority draft ruling that would overturn Roe v. Wade. Elon Musk says he’d allow former President Trump back on Twitters if his deal to buy it goes through. And a 228 carat pear-shaped stone called “The Rock” is going up for sale at Christie's auction house In Geneva. It’s expected to fetch a record $30 million.

Death toll rising in Texas school shooting

The death toll has been growing in the shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas. At least 19 children and two adults were killed by an 18-year-old gunman, authorities say. CBS News projects Gov. Brian Kemp will win the GOP primary for his post over Trump-backed former Sen. David Perdue. And CBS News projects that Herschel Walker, the Trump-endorsed former football star, will win the Republican nomination to take on incumbent Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock.

Russian official: Kyiv, Mariupol to be hit

The head of a Russian republic warns plans are being made to attack Mariupol, Kyiv and other major Ukrainian cities. The U.S. has accused the official of human rights abuses. The White House is expected to roll out a long-anticipated rule regarding hard-to-trace “ghost guns.” And the world’s top-ranked golfer, Scottie Scheffler, won the Masters as Tiger Woods had his worst showing ever at the tournament in his first outing since a serious car wreck.

Police response to school shooting questioned

A young man who lives across the street from the Texas elementary school where 19 children and 2 teachers were killed tells The Associated Press he urged police to charge into the school when he saw the gunman run in.
