Biden says democracy itself is on the ballot

President Biden warned that America's democratic traditions are in peril, less than a week before the midterm elections. He said democracy itself is under threat from election deniers, fueling a rise in political violence and voter intimidation. Thanksgiving will cost consumers about 13.5% more compared to last year thanks to inflation, a market research firm says. And in Game 4 of the World Series, the Houston Astros threw a combined no-hitter against the Philadelphia Phillies, winning 5-0 to tie the series at two games apiece.

Unrest, violence continues in Haiti

Haiti has been grappling with myriad crises that have spread across the nation over the last month. Widespread gasoline and diesel shortages have emerged after armed gangs blocked the nation's main fuel terminal, and these gangs have also severed access to clean water, food and other essentials as Haiti also deals with a deadly cholera outbreak. Amy Wilentz, author of "The Rainy Season: Haiti Since Duvalier" and a professor of literary journalism at the University of California, Irvine, joined CBS News to discuss.

Charges to be announced in Paul Pelosi attack

The suspect in an attack that left House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's husband Paul hospitalized with a skull fracture is set to have charges against him announced today. It comes as CBS News has confirmed that the suspect had a list of other targets he may have been planning to attack, as well.
