Israel-Hamas hostage negotiations crawling

The Biden administration's top Middle East adviser is in Egypt for talks about a hostage release and temporary cease-fire deal between Israel and Hamas. But negotiations appear to be plodding along with just a few weeks remaining before the Ramadan deadline Israel has set. If no deal is made by then, Israel says it will move forward with a major ground operation in the south of Gaza. CBS News senior foreign correspondent Holly Williams has more.

U.S. soldiers killed in Jordan return home

President Biden and first lady Jill Biden will join grieving families at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware on Friday for the dignified transfer of the three U.S. service members who were killed in Jordan. Sgt. William Jerome Rivers, Spc. Kennedy Sanders, and Spc. Breonna Moffett, all from Georgia, died over the weekend during a drone attack by Iran-backed militants. CBS News senior White House and political correspondent Ed O'Keefe has more on the transfer and U.S. plans for retaliation.

Biden on response to deadly drone strike

Speaking with reporters on the south lawn of the White House, President Biden said he had made a decision on how to respond to the drone attack that killed three U.S. service members at a base in Jordan. Mr. Biden said he holds Iran responsible for supplying weapons to the group blamed for the attack, but stressed he's not looking for a wider war in the Middle East. Pentagon identifies drone attack victims

The Department of Defense announced Monday that Sgt. William Jerome Rivers, 46, of Carrollton, Georgia, Spc. Kennedy Ladon Sanders, 24, of Waycross, Georgia, and Spc. Breonna Alexsondria Moffett, 23, of Savannah, Georgia, were the three Army reserve soldiers killed during a drone attack at a military base in Jordan Sunday. Deputy Pentagon press secretary Sabrina Singh briefs reporters on the attack and CBS News national security correspondent David Martin shares details from his reporting.
