COVID-19 passports ease travel within Europe

The digital COVID Certificate is being rolled out across the member nations of the EU this month to ease travel restrictions. It allows anyone who has been double vaccinated, tested negative for COVID, or proven to have recovered from COVID a digital passport allowing them passage between most EU member countries. As Chris Livesay reports from Rome, the new system is not available in the U.S., nor is it applicable to travelers from the U.S.

EU demands release of journalist in Belarus

European Union leaders late Monday agreed on a set of sanctions against Belarus, including a ban on the use of the 27-nation bloc’s airspace and airports. They also called for the release of Roman Pratasevich, the journalist detained who has been vocal in his opposition to authoritarian Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko. As Elizabeth Palmer reports, Pratasevich appeared in a short video, seemingly staged, saying he was being treated well.
