Inside the bipartisan Senate immigration deal

Senate leaders say they're backing a breakthrough plan to control immigration at the U.S.-Mexico border, but it's strongly opposed by many House Republicans and some Democrats. Meanwhile, more than a dozen Republican governors are showing their support for Texas Gov. Greg Abbott's extreme measures to secure the border. Senate immigration deal to be unveiled soon

A national security bill backed by some Republicans and Democrats in the Senate that includes immigration reform and funding for Ukraine and Israel could be unveiled as soon as Friday with senators vowing to have the text out by Sunday at the latest. But, there is growing Republican opposition to the yet-to-be-seen legislation, particularly in the House of Representatives. CBS News congressional correspondent Scott MacFarlane has more.

House GOP advances Mayorkas impeachment

A committee vote along party lines on Tuesday advanced a Republican effort to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to the full House, with the GOP accusing him of failing to limit immigration at the southern border. The vote came after Republican House leaders suggested they would block an immigration measure being negotiated in the Senate. CBS News congressional correspondent Scott MacFarlane reports on what will continue to be a busy week on Capitol Hill.

Immigration bill, impeachment on Capitol Hill

Members of the House Homeland Security Committee are meeting today to discuss articles of impeachment against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas with Democrats calling it a waste of time. Meanwhile, a possible bipartisan border security deal is facing an uphill battle as former President Donald Trump advocates against a deal.
