Congress works to avert government shutdown

The House of Representatives passed a short-term resolution Thursday that would temporarily fund the government through February 18. It's now up to the Senate to stop the shutdown, but as CBS News congressional correspondent Kris Van Cleave reports, a group of Republican lawmakers could derail the effort. Biden talks infrastructure in New Hampshire

President Biden promoted the infrastructure bill in New Hampshire, saying the bipartisan agreement he just signed will bring economic benefits across the country. He's also hoping for another legislative victory as House Democrats prepare to vote on his social and climate spending package in the coming days. Democrats try to reach deal on Biden’s agenda

President Biden's domestic legislative agenda faces major hurdles as Democrats continue to negotiate key issues. Senate passes a short-term debt limit extension

The U.S. Senate passed a short-term extension of the debt ceiling on Thursday night. The bill allows the nation's borrowing limit to be increased by $480 billion, which the Treasury Department says will be enough to cover the country's debt obligations until December 3.
