Community Link Capital Region held its 26th annual People Helping People Awards ceremony and 75th Anniversary celebration on Wednesday, October 15, at the Aerospace Museum of California. The awards honor organizations and individuals for their contributions to the regional community in eight categories. The winners were: The Sacramento Bee Exceptional Community Support Award, SMUD; The SAFE Credit Union HandsOn Superior California Award, Kaiser Permanente; The SMUD S.T.E.M. Leadership Award, Mark Graham of Aerojet Rocketdyne; The Executive Leadership Award, Garry Maisel of Western Health Advantage; The Maynard Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award, Henry Wirz of SAFE Credit Union; The Unsung Hero Award, Deborah Meltvedt, of916 Ink; The Youth Volunteer Award, Nicholas Wilson, Safety Center; The People's Choice Award, Active 20-30 International.

Friends of the Arts Commission and Councilmember Fong's 3rd annual fundraiser for arts education, Savor the Arts, was held at Ella Dining Room & Bar on October 12th. Nine elected officials served as waiters for the event, including Councilmembers Cohn, Fong, Hansen, McCarty and Jennings, and Supervisors MacGlashan, Nottoli, Peters and Kennedy. The event supports Arts Commission arts education programs such as Arts for Any Given Child, an initiative of the J.F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts that provides arts education experiences for students in 4 Sacramento school districts who would otherwise not have any arts education during the school day. Over 120,000 students have been served by the program over the last 4 years.

The proceeds will be used to help firmly establish The Chevo Fund as part of a legacy for Chevo Ramirez and to provide funding for additional resources and build awareness in Northern California to further Parkinson's research and education for those directly and indirectly affected by the condition and for those not yet diagnosed.
