University of the Pacific Expansion with new Degrees Celebration

The University of the Pacific, also home of McGeorge School of Law, celebrated the expansion of the campus on June 26th in Sacramento. Five new degrees will be introduced over the next two years: Master of Business Administration; Doctor of Education; Master of Public Policy; Master of Physician Assistant Studies; and Master of Public Administration.

ALS Summer Soiree "A Night in Havana" Fundraiser

The Greater Sacramento Chapter of the ALS Association had their annual signature Summer Soiree with this year's theme "A Night In Havana" on June 19th at Arden Hills Resort. ALS was first found in 1869 by French neurologist Jean-Martin Charcot, but it wasn't until 1939 that Lou Gehrig brought national and international attention to the disease. Ending the career of one of the most beloved baseball players of all time, the disease is still most closely associated with his name. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Motor neurons reach from the brain to the spinal cord and from the spinal cord to the muscles throughout the body.

Sacramento Black Chamber of Commerce Young Entrepreneurs Academy Graduation

The Sacramento Black Chamber of Commerce Foundation's Young Entrepreneur's Academy celebrated the graduation of its sixth cohort of students on June 18th. The graduation was held at the Walter Buehler Alumni Center on the UC Davis campus. Added to that celebration was the naming of the scholarship fund to the Michael C. Poindexter Scholarship Fund. Mr. Poindexter, serves on the Board of Directors of the Sacramento Black Chamber of Commerce. During his tenure he's served in many capacities including Board Chair and has the distinction of being one of the Founders of the Young Entrepreneur's Academy.

Center for Fathers and Families SALUTE TO FATHERHOOD Banquet

Councilmember Rick Jennings and the Center for Fathers and Families honored Sacramento's 2015 Fathers of the Year at the Salute to Fatherhood Banquet on June 17. Honorees included Philip Arndt, Sonney Chong, Royal Edwards, John Escoto and Edward Lewis. Winners were selected through a community nomination process. Event proceeds will benefit the Center's after school programs that serve over 2,000 local youth.

Make-A-Wish fundraiser Reception at the Sacramento Kings' President Home

More than 100 guests attended a backyard reception at the home of Sacramento Kings' President Chris Granger and his wife Jennifer to learn more about the local chapter of Make-A-Wish and help grant wishes to local children with life-threatening medical conditions. The event was co-hosted by the law firm of Weintraub Tobin. Guests heard from a local wish recipient, Delaney, 11, who has a rare heart condition. Her wish for a room makeover was granted last year. The guests were also told about 10 children in the area who are waiting their wish and the guests had the opportunity to fund a wish through the Adopt-A-Wish® program.

Sacramento Regional Conservation Corps BREAKFAST ON THE RIVER Fundraiser

The SRCC Breakfast on the River fundraiser was held at Discovery Park off the Garden Hwy on June 5th. The mission of the Sacramento Regional Conservation Corps (SRCC) is to enrich the lives of young adults by providing a development program integrating education, job skills training and work experience on conservation projects and service opportunities that benefit the region and our corpsmembers.
