Powerhouse Science Center Groundbreaking Ceremony
May 31st marks the ground breaking ceremony for the new Powerhouse Science Center at the historic power station on the Sacramento waterfront. Gathered to celebrate the newest addition to the urban core were numerous elected officials, sponsors, architects, board members and community supporters.
"With a target opening date in late 2020, Powerhouse Science Center will be a premier institution for informal science education in Sacramento and the Northern California Region. The new Powerhouse will serve as a dynamic regional hub for STEM education with a mission to engage and inspire people of all ages to explore the wonders, possibilities and responsibilities of science through dynamic exhibits and education programs. "
The new Powerhouse will include:
· ???? A 50,000 square foot campus that incorporates the 100-year-old Pacific Gas & Electric power plant currently located on the property.
· ???? 22,000 feet of exhibition space.
· ???? A state-of-the-art, 120-seat, full-dome
digital planetarium theater.
· ???? Aesthetic improvements to the Robert T. Matsui Waterfront Park.
· ???? Iconic grounds on the Sacramento River that will serve as a unique backdrop for corporate and private events.
