Sacramento Hispanic Chamber Latina Estrella Luncheon and Awards

On Tuesday, December 11th, the Sacramento Hispanic Chamber of Commerce hosted the 4th Annual Latina Estrella Awards. The event recognizes exceptional leaders in our region. This year, City of Sacramento Councilwoman Angelique Ashby was the guest speaker. Four awards were given: Karina Talamantes, Rising Estrella, Ramona Landeros, Champion Estrella, Clarissa Laguardia, Inspiration Estrella, and Carolina Rojas-Gore, Legacy Estrella. The sold-out event held at the Dante Club celebrated the contributions and accomplishments of these phenomenal women that makes them all Estrellas!

Sacramento Junior League Poinsettia Luncheon and Fashion Show

On November 28, the Sacramento Junior League held the Grand Finale Poinsettia Luncheon and Fashion Show at the Doubletree Hotel. The Junior League of Sacramento, Inc is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.

Hope Cooperative Stand Up Sacramento Comedy Showcase And Fundraiser

On November 28, the 6th annual Stand Up Sacramento Comedy Showcase and fundraiser was held at the Crest Theatre, downtown Sacramento. Hope Cooperative (formerly TLCS, Inc.) is overwhelmed with gratitude to the Sacramento community. They came out in force to support the most vulnerable among us, people with serious mental illness, many of whom are experiencing homelessness. With the unveiling of their new name, they also launched an inaugural "Carrier of Hope" Award presented to none other than Mayor Darrell Steinberg, for his leadership and commitment to support programs that help mentally ill, homeless folks in the region. The evening was capped off with an announcement that Hope Cooperative (formerly TLCS, Inc.) was awarded the Bank of America Neighborhood Builders $200,000 award for 2019. Thank you to all who came out to support their critical services and programs.

CADA 40th Anniversary Celebration

On November 14th, CADA 40th anniversary was held at the Fox & Goose Restaurant to celebrate this landmark moment with a celebratory anniversary video and commemorative book to learn about the 40-year history, relive memories, and reflect on all CADA accomplished in downtown Sacramento over the years. Congratulations to staff, board members, elected officials, developers, architects, and neighborhood residents past and present for 40 years of hard work and dedication to the Capitol Park Neighborhood and R Street Corridor. Since 1978, CADA has been about building neighborhoods for people, not for profits. As a self-supporting public agency, fiscal prudence is a must. But we're also driven by another bottom line: to build safe, affordable and environmentally sustainable urban neighborhoods that people are happy to call home.

The 6th Annual ULI Sacramento's Vision Honors was held on Wednesday, November 14 at The Citizen Hotel. The following recipients were honored: ULI Best Public Place Award to The Sacramento Kings for DOCO Plaza; ULI Next Big Idea Award to UC Davis for Aggie Square;and ULI Member/Achiever of the Year to John Hodgson, The Hodgson Company. ULI Sacramento's Annual Vision Honors was established in 2012 to recognize and honor outstanding leadership in both the private and public sector in Sacramento's real estate land use community. Past Vision Honors recipients represent the highest standards of achievement in the real estate development industry. The mission of the Urban Land Institute is to provide leadership in the responsible use of land and in creating and sustaining thriving communities worldwide.

Sacramento Regional Family Justice Center Celebration and Fundraiser

On November 9, the Sacramento Regional Family Justice Center held the third annual Hope Thrives Here Celebration, "Village of Hope" at California State University. Honorees were Kryiakos and Brianne Tsakopoulos. The Sacramento Regional Family Justice Center (FJC) collaborative provides victims and their families with a "one stop" facility to report a crime, provide a complete statement taken by a detective or a trained child interviewer, get assistance to obtain a temporary restraining order, find safe housing, meet their prosecutor and victim advocate to learn what will happen in court, and most importantly, find the support they need to keep them from falling back into the hands of the accused.

Saint John's Program for Real Change Party and Fundraiser

Party for Change, held Saturday, November 3 at the Mather Jet Center, proved to be the event of the season, with nearly 600 of Sacramento's finest showing their support for Saint John's Program for Real Change, the city's largest residential program for homeless women and their children. The event featured contemporary American cuisine by Chef Brad Cecchi of popular East Sacramento restaurant Canon, dance and aerialist performances by the Sacramento Contemporary Dance Theatre, music by famed Las Vegas DJ E-Noc and a live auction. Councilwoman Angelique Ashby and Sierra Health Foundation President and CEO Chet Hewitt were honored at the 2018 Champions of Change. The event raised more than $500,000 in support of Saint John's, which has helped more than 30,000 women and children move from poverty and dependence to confidence and self-sufficiency since its inception in 1985.
