Prosecutors: NJ Woman Sold Forged Divorce Judgments
CLIFTON, N.J. (AP) — Authorities say a New Jersey woman sold forged divorce judgments that appeared to be authentic court documents.
Passaic County prosecutors say Anastasya Varvaryuk is charged with practicing law without a license and forgery. The 29-year-old Elmwood Park resident could face up to 10 years in prison if convicted on both counts.
Prosecutors say Varvaryuk forged the signature of a state Superior Court judge on the documents to make them appear authentic. She then sold them to "unsuspecting customers," telling them the divorce judgments were valid.
Varvaryuk allegedly ran the operation out of a Clifton business. But authorities say it doesn't appear that anyone else was involved in the scheme.
Varvaryuk could not be reached for comment on Saturday, and it wasn't known if she has retained an attorney.
