Livery cab driver stabbed repeatedly and left for dead in the Bronx, taxi group says

A livery cab driver is in critical condition after being stabbed repeatedly in an apparent case of road rage early Wednesday morning in the Bronx.

It happened at around 2:30 a.m. at Randall Avenue and White Plains Road in the Castle Hill section of the borough, police said.

"This is attempted of murder. He left him there to die"

The New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers (NYSFTD) is calling on the community to come forward with information to help the NYPD find the person who brutally attacked 39-year-old driver Osei Kusi. It is also offering a $5,000 reward.

"This is attempted of murder. He left him there to die," said Fernando Mateo, NYSFTD spokesman. "It involved someone in another vehicle on the road that got into some kind of road rage with him. They both got out of the vehicle, and the stabbing occurred. That's why we're telling our drivers never get out of your vehicle. That's your shield."

Mateo said Kusi was able to call a friend and tell him where he was located, adding the friend then called for an ambulance.

Latest on the livery cab driver's condition

Kusi was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center, where Samuel Cudjoe, his uncle, told CBS News New York he had emergency surgery.

"He was stabbed eight times, even in his chest. The doctor says the knife cut his heart, part of his heart. He's out of surgery, but he can't talk, can't do anything," Cudjoe said.

Cudjoe shared his nephew is from Ghana, where his wife still lives, and that he has been driving for about six years.

"He's a nice guy, quiet guy. He doesn't even bother anybody and he never have an issue with anybody in this country, so I don't know why this happened to him," Cudjoe said.

The NYSFTD said it believes Kusi had charged his vehicle at a nearby charging station and was on his way home when the altercation happened.

"We need to get whoever committed this crime off the streets. You don't have road rage, get out your car and try to kill someone," Mateo said.

He said police have video from Kusi's car cameras, which he hopes can help lead to an arrest.

Anyone with any information is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477), or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). You can also submit a tip via their website or via DM on X, @NYPDTips. All calls are kept confidential.
