F and G subways restored in Brooklyn after trash fire on tracks
A fire on the subway tracks in Brooklyn caused disruptions for riders on the F and G lines Tuesday morning.
Both lines were suspended while the MTA said it was "investigating a mechanical problem on a train at Bergen Street."
The FDNY later said the issues were caused by a rubbish fire that broke out around 9:30 a.m. during the morning rush at the Jay Street-MetroTech station. The flames were dragged to Bergen Street before being put out.
According to the MTA, a D train hit the debris, but passengers did not have to be evacuated. No injuries were reported.
Service on the F train line was suspended between West 4th Street-Washington Square in Manhattan and Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue in Brooklyn.
Downtown F trains were running via the D line between West 4th and Coney Island. Some downtown trains were ending at Second Avenue, and some uptown trains ended at Fourth Avenue.
Similarly, G train service was suspended between Bedford-Nostrand Avenues and Court Square in both directions.
Service along both lines was restored by noon, but significant delays remained.
