South Florida faces daily rain chances as peak of hurricane season nears
The NEXT Weather team is tracking a rainy and stormy Sunday afternoon and early evening across South Florida.
Storms are expected to impact the Miami-Dade and Broward metro areas between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.
Storms will build over the Everglades in the early afternoon before pushing into the urban areas. Rain chances will remain high during the mid-afternoon hours, with conditions clearing by early evening.
The unsettled weather pattern is forecast to continue throughout the week, with the largest chance of storms coming Monday and Tuesday.
Today's storms could also affect football fans. As the Miami Dolphins take the field in Indianapolis for their season opener, watch parties in Miami are expected to move indoors. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m., coinciding with storm development across the region.
In the tropics, the National Hurricane Center reported a tropical wave in the Atlantic will not develop as earlier projected. Atmospheric conditions are expected to cause the system to dissipate. The peak of hurricane season arrives Wednesday, Sept. 10.
