The chase reportedly started in Bell Gardens.
Police are searching for two suspects.
The motive for the incident remains under investigation.
According to the CHP, the suspect was involved in an accident on the Angeles Crest Highway.
The chase ended just before midnight when the suspects crashed their vehicle into the front of a home located near Bermerton and W. 123rd Street.
As of 7:35, the suspect and the two passengers were all taken into custody.
According to police, Marcos Tulio Flores, described as a documented gang member, was taken into custody shortly before 12:30 a.m. by SWAT officers.
At one point, at least two of the suspects jumped from the black Dodge Challenger and jumped into another waiting car.
During the pursuit, the suspect stuck his hands out the window and made several gestures.
The chase started on the 605 Freeway.
The driver eventually decided to stop at Agnus Avenue and Keswick Street and surrendered to police.
Paramedics pronounced the driver dead at the scene. His identity is being withheld pending family notification.
There was talk of closing down the northbound 110 Freeway in the area to search for a weapon the suspect allegedly tossed from the vehicle.
Six people were injured -- one of them critically -- in a crash at the conclusion of a California Highway Patrol pursuit in Mid-City Friday night, authorities said.
