Juan Fernandez
Juan Fernandez currently anchors KCAL News weekdays at 4 p.m., 8 p.m. and 10 p.m.. With a career spanning decades in broadcast journalism, Fernandez has become a trusted voice in Los Angeles known for his professionalism, clarity, and deep connection to the community he serves.
Throughout his tenure at CBS2 and KCAL News, Fernandez also served as a weathercaster and anchor for a variety of newscasts on both stations. His versatility and depth of knowledge has made him a valuable member of the news team. He has reported on many of the region's most memorable stories—from breaking news and natural disasters to major national events. Most recently Fernandez co-anchored nonstop coverage of the devastating wildfires in Altadena and Pacific Palisades, the assassination attempt of President Donald Trump and Joe Biden stepping down from his run for the White House.
Before coming to Los Angeles, Fernandez began his broadcast career in Miami, Florida, where he worked as a general assignment reporter for both Spanish- and English-language news outlets in the region, including WSVN-7, WLTV-23/Univision, and the Telemundo Network. His ability to report fluently in both English and Spanish has allowed him to connect with a broad and diverse audience throughout his career.
A proud graduate of Florida International University, Fernandez earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications and Broadcast Journalism.
Fernandez is a passionate advocate for multilingualism and literacy, frequently speaking about the value of learning multiple languages and the doors it can open. He is deeply committed to mentorship, particularly when it comes to supporting and guiding students pursuing careers in broadcasting and journalism.
Outside the newsroom, Fernandez enjoys taking advantage of everything Southern California has to offer. He is an avid hiker, a devoted traveler, and a passionate food enthusiast, always exploring the region's rich culinary diversity.
