Los Angeles mayor says increased military presence is unnecessary amid protests against ICE

Protests over federal immigration enforcement efforts in Los Angeles entered their fifth day on Tuesday, as hundreds of U.S. Marines have been deployed to the city, along with 2,000 more National Guard troops acting in a federal capacity at President Trump’s direction. L.A. Mayor Karen Bass insisted the uninvited military presence is unnecessary and accused the president of escalating tensions.
