Investigators said 24-year-old Jermaine Allen of Chicago demanded free food at the restaurant at 78th and Western. He's also charged with aggravated battery. Two workers are in good condition.
The man was apprehended after he was spotted near the scene sometime after the attack at the McDonald's on Western Avenue on the Southwest Side. Shardaa Gray reports.
"I saw a little blood on the axe, and he was smiling. He was smiling and walking with the axe like this and eating a cookie," a man outside the McDonald's said.
