Trooper Clay Carns was killed late Monday night on I-55 just north of Blodgett Road near Channahon. Noel Brennan reports.
So far in 2024, there have been 25 Scott's Law-related crashes with 12 of those troopers hurt.
Around 12:45 a.m., a state police trooper's squad car was parked in the right lane of I-55 southbound at Route 83 with its emergency lights activated.
According to Illinois State Police, troopers responded to the multi-vehicle crash south of 127th Street just before 5:20 a.m.
Sources said they believe the driver may have been thrown from the vehicle, and was then hit by a FedEx truck.
