Chicago Public Schools leadership has recommended the Chicago Board of Education revoke the charters from Urban Prep's campuses in Englewood and Bronzeville
Students also earned more than $1.5 billion dollars in scholarships for college.
When the reading and math test scores came in last year, it was a gut punch to teachers CPS CEO Pedro Martinez said.
It includes the district's only swing made for children in wheelchairs. There's also a see-saw, some musical equipment and other interactive play areas.
Kids can learn new computer skills and explore their creativity with video equipment, 3D printers, textiles and other technology.
Officials said it will help the school establish therapy riding programs for veterans, first responders, and people with disabilities.
Students told CBS 2 there have been other issues, including long security links to get into the school.
Four teenagers were injured in the shooting on the patio of the La Michoacana Ice Cream Shop across the street from the school at Milwaukee Avenue and Addison Street.
"The distance that I live to her school, that's an eight mile transport on transportation. And I'd have to take four buses and a train to get there."
The students described Karen Fitzpatrick-Carpenter as 'the glue that holds this building together.'
