The victim, identified as Austin Stanek, 24, of Island Lake, Illinois, was taken to Advocate Good Shepard Hospital in Barrington, where he died.
Police said the driver was headed north on Interstate 94 near Winnetka Road, when they hit a concrete dividing barrier.
State police said troopers responded to the scene for a report of a motor vehicle crash involving a Jeep Grand Cherokee and a school bus.
Troopers and fire crews responded to the scene, finding four vehicles involved in the crash.
It is unclear if slick road conditions caused the crash or if anyone was hurt.
