Chicago Police Corner Suspected Bank Robber At Red Line Station
(CBS) -- It was an L of a way to get caught: A bank robber is in federal custody, after being arrested by police while trying to make his getaway by CTA train.
The thief demanded money about 3 p.m. Thursday from a teller at the Fifth/Third Bank branch at 29 W. Division St., just a short dash from the Clark and Division Red Line stop.
But he was being tracked by GPS from the moment he left the bank and didn't bother to check the bundle of cash he grabbed after boarding a train heading south.
Chicago Police officers were waiting for the train at 69th Street, where a CTA spokesman said that the man's arrest caused only a brief delay.
FBI Special Agent Garrett Croon said the man also was wanted in connection with two June 1 bank robberies, five minutes apart just off the Magnificent Mile -- a Citibank branch at 1 E. Oak St. and a PNC Bank branch at 877 N. Rush St.
