The Ravens released Pitta with an injury waiver on June 7, five days after he dislocated and fractured his hip during an offseason practice session. Pitta returned to action the previous two times he dislocated his hip, but now it appears another comeback simply is not possible.
Now in his 15th season, the Ravens' career sacks leader is the lone remaining star from a renowned unit that once featured All-Pros Ray Lewis, Ed Reed and Haloti Ngata.
Pitta confirmed he had dislocated and fractured his hip for a third time and that he had surgery last week.
"Baltimore made the most sense from a football standpoint, a comfort standpoint and a personal standpoint," he said. "It's an organization that I've always had respect for from afar."
