Scattered showers arrive Sunday, ahead of much colder weather across Maryland

The weekend has started off on a beautiful note across the Mid-Atlantic. Temperatures are slowly cool back into the 50s this evening, as clouds increase across central Maryland. The forecast remains dry until Sunday morning.

Scattered wet weather moves through on Sunday

Sunday will not be a total washout, but rounds of scattered rain are in the forecast.

The first round of scattered showers arrives Sunday morning; starting as early as 5 a.m. in southern Maryland. The chance of rain in the morning is greatest across the eastern shore and near the Potomac River, southeast of D.C.

Events like the Bay Bridge Run and Maryland Irish Festival could be impacted by hit-or-miss type showers. Though, there will be dry time, too.

Temperatures peak in the mid and upper 60s in most communities, under a mostly cloudy sky. Spotty rain is possible through the early afternoon across greater Baltimore and surrounding areas. The chance of rain increases across the entire area as a line of rain and a few storms moves in from the west Sunday evening. Plan on a line of brief heavy rain moving through between 3 p.m. and midnight; closer to the end of that timeline on the eastern shore.

The line of heavier rain moves out of our area before sunrise Monday morning.

Arctic blast impacts Maryland early in the workweek

The coldest air so far this system is settling into the northern United States and will make its way eastward, into our area, as we begin the new workweek.

Monday and Tuesday are First Alert Weather Days due to the unusually cold and windy weather. It'll be a shock to the system after such a mild weekend.

Temperatures will be in the 30s and 40s Monday morning during the commute. A breeze will make it feel like it's in the 20s and 30s. It'll remain in the 40s in many areas all day long, under a mix of sun and clouds. Winds will gust up to 30 MPH through the afternoon.

Even colder weather arrives Monday night, into Tuesday. Temperatures bottom-out in the 20s and lower 30s Tuesday morning. A gusty breeze will have it feeling like it's in the teens and 20s across central Maryland. Temperatures are forecast to range from the upper 30s to mid-40s across our area Tuesday afternoon. Winds will be gusting up to 45 MPH. The cold and wind combination will have it feeling unusually uncomfortable, by early November standards.

Along with the cold, some will see snow in Maryland.

Accumulating snow expected in western Maryland Mountains

Mountain snow showers are forecast to develop as cold air pours in Sunday night. Rounds of snow continue across the highest elevations of far western Maryland through Tuesday.

1"-3" of snow is forecast to fall in western Garrett County; heaviest along the west-facing slopes. Lighter snow is possible across the rest of Garrett, Allegany and Washington Counties. Accumulation in theses areas looks minimal. Farther east, snow flurries and sprinkles are possible across the Baltimore metro, eastern shore and southern Maryland.

The chance of seeing a few snow flakes away from the mountains will be greatest Monday evening through early Tuesday morning.

Warmer weather briefly returns by next Wednesday.

Have a great rest of your weekend,

Cutter
